Paper of Everyday Life

Unknown printers

In the Meiji era Japan modernised quickly, and so did its printing. Calendars, labels, tickets and advertisements were made to be used for a season and thrown away. The few that survived now read like small portraits of their time.

These are typographic pieces in black and white or two or three flat colours. They suit kitchens, hallways and studies as much as living rooms.
